Iri Into Elsewhere
Cycling Around Hatta
13 February 2023
Hatta is quietly — or rather, not-so-quietly — becoming one of the UAE’s most charming weekend escapes. What used to be a tucked-away mountain village has now grown into a beloved getaway not only for UAE residents but increasingly for curious tourists, too. Think rugged mountains, cooler breezes, and a pace of life that invites you to slow down and breathe.
We’ve been to Hatta more times than I can count — mostly for kayaking on the dam (a classic!) or sneaking in a short hike to feel outdoorsy without overcommitting. But this time, Polina and I arrived with zero expectations and even less of a plan. Just the idea of a scenary change.

We parked near the dam like we usually do but decided to wander a bit before heading to the kayaks. That’s when we stumbled into the historical village — a beautifully restored area that gives a glimpse into traditional Emirati mountain life. The air was still fresh from the morning, the sun kind, and there was an easy stillness to it all.
And then… Lime Bacycle happened.
We popped in without thinking, and just like that, our day took an unexpected turn. From sipping fresh juices in local shops by the road and flipping through handmade souvenirs to spontaneous chats with other wanderers, and the day built itself around new little discoveries.
That’s the magic of Hatta. You can plan an itinerary down to the minute — or just show up and let it surprise you.
