Crushed Russian Plane

05 June 2020

The Mystery of the “Plane Crash” in Al Aweer Desert

What really happened here?

Tucked away in the sands of Al Awir lies what appears to be the wreckage of a crashed aircraft. You can even find the spot marked on Google Maps as “Al Aweer plane crash.” But the deeper I looked into it, the murkier the story became.

There’s no official record of an actual crash at this site — no headlines, no investigation reports, no news coverage. So… what is it?

Some sources suggest that the plane didn’t crash here at all. Instead, it was transported and deliberately placed in the desert by a local farmhouse owner — possibly for artistic effect, maybe even just to spark mystery (mission accomplished!).

Others claim the aircraft wreckage is actually a mashup — the body of an old Russian helicopter combined with parts of a small aircraft. A cinematic Frankenstein of aviation, right there in the sand.

I couldn’t find any definitive answers — just a lot of speculation and whispered theories. But that’s what makes it fun, isn't it?

Have you heard another version of the story? Or maybe you've visited the site yourself? Let me know in the comments — I’d love to hear your take! 🙏🏼
